Healthshare Clinic Winchester launches new Standing CT service

At Healthshare, we’re passionate about empowering people to get the treatment they need, the way they want. To ensure this, we’re committed to investing in the latest technologies and knowledge-sharing in the wider healthcare community. The Healthshare Clinic Winchester was pleased to host an educational evening focused on cutting-edge weight-bearing cone beam CT scanning technologies for whole body orthopaedic diagnosis, to promote the launch of the service.

The event, in collaboration with StandingCT, explored best practice ideas and real-world experience of weight-bearing cone beam CT (WBCT) scanning. Healthshare clinicians and consultants attended to knowledge-share and improve patient diagnosis and outcomes. The event provided an excellent introduction to the many benefits of the technology, and provided the opportunity to discuss clinical experiences and practical application using a variety of cases scanned at the Healthshare Clinic Winchester earlier that day.

“We’re so pleased to be offering patients access to weight bearing CT at Winchester, with technology that complements our already cutting edge imaging department. Images taken via standing CT can help demonstrate day to day pressure on joints, and help a consultant understand what may be causing issues. This then helps them to plan your overall treatment and recovery, leading to better outcomes.”

Kyle Smith, Head of Imaging at Healthshare Clinic Winchester

The key benefits of weight-bearing cone beam CT scanning

Weight-bearing cone beam CT scanning offers considerable benefits to both patient and clinician, when compared to traditional CT and non-weight bearing scanning. This includes:

  • 3D views of lower limbs, allowing bones and joint spacing to be seen in a functional position for more active diagnosis and surgical planning.
  • Lower radiation dosage for the patient. The low radiation dosage of cone beam CT is equivalent to a standard X-ray set and up to 20x less than a conventional CT
  • Faster scanning times compared to conventional CT

How to access whole-body cone beam CT scanning

At Healthshare, we offer regular access to weight-bearing cone beam CT through StandingCT, the UK’s only supplier of this technology, via their mobile van service. We’re proud to invest in diagnostic imaging that offers patients and clinicians greater choice and better outcomes.
