Healthshare FAQs

Let us answer your questions

Private healthcare is available for anyone willing and able to pay for their treatment. You usually get access to a consultation and treatment faster than on the NHS and treatments which are not available on the NHS. Private healthcare is provided by a private hospital or clinic which is not part of the NHS. However, some private clinics and consultants may support the NHS by fulfilling contracts involving handling NHS cases alongside private practice.

For more detail on how private healthcare works, please read this article.

As a private patient, you have three options:

1. See our in-house private GP

If you are unsure about your condition, we recommend that you have an initial consultation with one of our dedicated private GPs. They can then refer you to one of our specialist consultants if required.

2. Existing GP referral

If you already have a GP referral, you can also book an appointment with one of our specialist consultants straight away. Visit our treatments pages for more information.

3. Book an appointment directly with a specialist consultant

You don’t necessarily need a GP referral. If you’d like to book a consultation directly to chat to a specialist about your complaint, then you can do so. However, please be aware that the consultant may need to discuss your treatment with your GP. Visit our treatments pages for more information.

The easiest and fastest way to book an appointment is to visit our Treatments hub, select the type of service you require and click ‘Book Now’ to complete our enquiry form. A friendly member of our referral team will get in touch as soon as possible.

You will receive a personalised quote tailored to your specific treatment needs. Approximate costs for our treatments can be found at the bottom of each procedure page. Visit our treatments pages for more information.

As a private patient, there are three payment options to choose from. Follow the links below to find out more information about each:

Our consultant directory allows you to explore our trusted experts. You can narrow your search down by filtering by treatment, location or name. Each consultant has a detailed profile page offering information on their experience, clinical interests and qualifications.

Please read this article for a full explanation on choosing your consultant.

In some NHS trusts, you can self-refer for physiotherapy treatment. For full details on our catchment areas and how it works, please click here.

Resources for NHS patients are available in our dedicated repository.

As an NHS England patient you can choose to be treated at a Healthshare Clinic that offers specialised services from experienced consultant surgeons. This is a legal right for any NHS England patient.

These choices only apply at the point of referral, so it is important you talk to your GP, optometrist or healthcare professional, who is referring you for specialist treatment, about the options available.

Healthshare support your right to patient choice. It is important that you are educated about your problem and given the choice to make informed decisions about your treatment options.

Further information about your choices can be found on the NHS website.

Yes, you can access treatment via NHS and private healthcare. If you access a diagnostic test through private healthcare, you can still receive further care through the NHS, and vice versa. NHS and private healthcare professionals will securely share the required information to provide you with quality care.

If you decide not to go ahead with your consultation, procedure or any other services, please contact us as soon as possible. We understand that your circumstances may have changed, or sometimes life gets in the way.
If you are a self-pay patient, we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee in accordance with our terms and conditions if you cancel your treatment within seven days of a scheduled appointment or admission date. Please review our full terms and conditions to understand our policy.

To check your appointment time, please contact your local clinic ahead of your appointment. You can find our contact details through our clinic hub.

The facilities vary between our clinics, but you can expect the same high standards of care no matter which one you attend. Visit our clinic hub for full detail on car parking, Wi-Fi and refreshments at your chosen clinic.
