Mr Obinna Mba

Consultant Gynaecologist
Qualifications: MBBS, MA, FRCOG, FHEA

Mr Mba is a consultant gynaecologist currently employed at University Hospital Southampton since 2015 and with over 15 years speciality experience. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), and the Higher Education Academy. He is also a member of the British Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) as well as the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy. He has held national committee positions at the RCOG and the BSCCP.

His special interest is in benign gynaecology, hysteroscopic surgery and colposcopy. He is specialised in the management of various gynaecological conditions such as – pelvic pain and endometriosis, abnormal menstrual bleeding, fibroids, polyps, ovarian cysts, pelvic infections, polycystic ovarian syndrome, menopause and abnormal cervical smears, among others. He adopts a holistic, individualised and evidence-based approach to patient care and in conditions where surgery is needed, is highly skilled in performing laparoscopic (keyhole), hysteroscopic and vaginal surgery. Mr Mba is keen on building a trusting, supportive and empathetic partnership with his patients where they feel fully informed and empowered to make the best choices for their health.

Continuous professional development is an important part of his practice, attending relevant professional courses and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure the best outcomes for his patients. He regular presents at national and international conferences and has publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Southampton, the regional (module) lead for undergraduate clinical education in obstetrics and gynaecology and is actively involved in postgraduate medical education in Wessex region.
