Mr Alistair Phillips

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Qualifications: FRCS (Tr & Orth)

Mr Alistair Phillips is a consultant trauma and upper limb surgeon who joined University Hospital Southampton Trust in February 2016. As well as being a hand surgeon, he’s part of the on-call trauma and orthopaedic team for the hospital’s major trauma centre and is also lead consultant for the trauma admissions unit.

Mr Phillips is an expert in the use of local anaesthetics and is one of the world’s foremost authorities on a technique known as WALANT (Wide Awake Local Anaesthetic No Tourniquet).

Mr Phillips also has a sub-specialty interest in complex upper limb trauma and reconstruction, and deals with many complex cases. He was the first surgeon in the UK to use the SBI radiocapitellar joint replacement, an artificial elbow joint. In a Trust first, he also used 3D printed guides in a hand operation called an intra-articular distal radius osteotomy.
