Dr Iñigo Sarriegui

MSK and Sports Medicine Consultant
Qualifications: BSc, BM, MRCGP, MFSEM, DipSEM, DipMSKUS

Dr Iñigo Sarriegui is currently the 1st team doctor for Southampton FC.

Originally from the Basque country in Spain, Dr Sarriegui moved to the UK when he was nine. During his GP training, Dr Sarriegui followed his long-standing passion for sport and began a diploma for sports medicine, which led to him getting his initial start with AFC Bournemouth, where he worked for six years. He subsequently worked as a team doctor for TeamSky/INEOS (professional cycling team) for 5 years.

Previously, Dr Sarriegui spent four years with the Football Association of Wales and their women’s football teams – at mainly under-17 and under-19 level, as well as working as a doctor covering the gymnastics, trampolining and men’s basketball finals at the London 2012 Olympic games.

Dr Sarriegui also works for the MOD, working at regional rehabilitation units and running a sports medicine clinics for service personnel. Previously he worked at the Institute of Naval Medicine in the Environmental Medicine Unit.

Dr Sarriegui is experienced in using musculoskeletal ultrasound to aid diagnosis and in applying treatments such as ultrasound guided injections and shockwave therapy (ESWT) for appropriate injuries.
